I am I.T. Training is offering certification classes to help adults find new careers in technology fields.
The technology certification program offers courses which prepare students for the CompTIA A+, an IT (information technology) industry-recognized certification, the Network+ and Security+. Students who pursue IT networking careers can continue into the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certification and CCNA certification courses.
Possible careers include working at a help desk or computer repair business as a network administrator or data analyst. “We are seeing lots of people getting jobs out of this class,” Antoinette Miller, Director of Knowledge and Training at I am I.T. said. “It's a game-changer.” One student who finished the class and was certified in CompTIA A+ last semester landed a $55,000 salary job repairing IT equipment, she noted.
“It gives you a chance to find a different career,” said Venezia White, an I am I.T. student studying for Cisco certifications. Connor Dawkins has been working as a security guard at a church in the Bluff City but is hoping to find a new career in the technology field after taking the CompTIA and Cisco classes and passing the tests last fall.
“It's a difficult test,” said Dawkins, noting students pass it with enough motivation and studying. He said he has learned about topics including hardware, operating systems and networking. Students also get hands-on experience taking computers apart.
One student who passed the CompTIA test is moving up within their company, Miller noted. “Several students have received the CompTIA A+ certification and have been offered jobs within weeks of passing the test.”
